Brown lentils is by far the most common variety of lentils and is used across many cuisine types. These have a mild and earthy flavour which makes them a versatile ingredient. They are a great addition to soups or stews to make Dal or used as salad toppings. As they hold their shape well, they will add a layer of flavours and texture to your dishes however you decide to use them! Did we mention they are also a great source of protein, fibre and minerals?
Rinse the lentils before cooking. Cook on a stovetop with a ratio of 3:1 (3 cups of liquid for every 1 cup of lentils). Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
Be sure to use a large saucepan as the lentils will expand up to three times in size.
